Sanctuary City

Sanctuary City is the largest and more-or-less most central Raconnan city in The Seven Villages.

Also called the City of Seven Lights, for its seven message towers, Sanctuary City is laid out, like most Raconnan settlements, in a circle, so the streets intersect in three-pointed, not four-pointed figures.

The city streets get busier the darker it gets. Tradespeople and people of all sorts, rich and poor, fill the streets at night and vend their wares or buy their goods or look for an easy mark.

Founding

According to folklore, the founders of Sanctuary were guided to the site where the city would be by a white stag.

Orchards

The capitol city is surrounded by many orchards, filled with every sort of fruit and nut tree known to Racconans-- apple, peach, almond, and walnut, to name a few. They are privately owned, generally by wealthier families who live within the city, though some sparse few are owned by partnerships of lesser landowners. They are treasured as much for their value as a status symbol as for the fruit they produce and the profit they generate. The workers who tend these trees use a harness of straps and stilts to reach the branches for pruning and picking the fruit and nuts. Skilled workers can get around quite quickly on these stilts.
