Imprinting is the term used for a goblin duplicating personality traits and knowledge from another person prior to hatching. A goblin will not take on all of a person's personality, only part of it, usually focussing on a single concept.

Traits that have been exhibited include: intelligence, hostility, negativity, machismo/"coolness", innocence/"inner child", creativity, hopes for the future, lessons of the past, scholarlyness, "warrior within", and nerdiness.

Unconfirmed Information

In the pre-retcon version of the webcomic, called Under the Lemon Tree, certain facts were stated that have not so far been repeated, changed, or made irrelevant in the currently posted version. These include:

• Two other people were shown as having creatures similar to Ben's posse. These showed the traits of hopes for the future, lessons of the past, scholarlyness, "warrior within", and nerdiness.
