Fennel

Fennel, who's almost never called anything but "Fen", is one of Quentyn's two best friends from before becoming a questor. He later becomes a bard, and was involved in the making of Wildcard.

The Fae Rath

During his training as a bard, Fennel becomes obsessed with watching the Fae Rath, a channel between the different worlds that is monitored for voices and song coming from the other side. It is later revealed that his reason for being so attached to the Fae Rath is because he'd earlier heard a full orchestra of music, but had lost it due to being too awed at the performance to write down the music. Afterwards, he tried to keep as close a watch as possible to catch anything else that might come. As a result his grades grew worse and he was constantly tired. It is only when Kestrel visits in order to cheer Fen up, and perhaps save his slipping grades, that he tells anyone about what had happened.
