I have been remarkably close to on-time all the times that has happened to me. I may have broken records for cycling speed in a residential neighborhood.
I too make doctors nervous.

That's why phones and a lot of clocks these days have alarms that get progressively louder until you shut it off.

Though I will cop to taking as much as five minutes to wake up (a couple of times).
Uniformity is always at the expense of principle. The true man in a false world is necessarily eccentric.

"The only thing worse" sounds like a challenge to me. :P Tho I'm not sure which is worse: getting up late due to a broken alarm or getting up late because you slept right through it. The former costs money to fix (unless you have the tools and skills to DIY), but the latter is hard to know how to fix.

(I once incorporated the sound of the alarm into my dream. We were all set to put on a stage play when this beeping into an apparent loudspeaker started. The audience chuckled as we split up to look for the source. From my perspective, it was 2 minutes, but according to the clock when I woke, it was 13 minutes. So much for the Inception premise.)
Please read my webcomic, "Downscale," which updates Tuesdays and Fridays.

And for my movie reviews, look here.

At that point you can only accept being late. As someone told me once: "Take your time, I'm in a hurry."

I've done that more than a few times. Which is why my alarm clock is now outside of reach of the bed. I have to get out of bed, walk to the opposite wall, and turn it off. I can't reach it from my laying position because it's well past the foot of the bed. And in its little cubby hole of a shelf, the sound ECHOS quite well, and aimed towards me.

It's quite jarring every morning.

Well...I identify with this more on forgetting to set/turn the thing on than not hearing it..

But a long time ago I slept through a few...They make one with wheels...that jumps off the table and runs around the room...I told the wife at the time that I might need one of those.

"Oh HELL no!" she says.
"Why?" says I.
"You'd double tap it with a 45 before you even woke up!"

This has happened more often to me since that iPhone update that disabled the alarms while plugged in.

It does that now? Crud, good thing I set and reset my alarm every night (since my work schedule has been floating around, so has my wakeup time)

Which is why both of mine have separate switches for Snooze (long button on top), Off (for the day, small button on top-side or front bottom -- resets to ring the next morning), and Disabled (slide switch on lower side or toggle from a settings menu... Come to think of it, my watch is the same, less snooze).

And yes, "both", wall-powered (think it has battery backup) primary, small battery-powered one (rather quiet -- the "escalation" is not going louder, but more insistent ["beep... ... ... beep... ... ...", "beep beep... ... beep beep... ...", "beep beep beep... beep beep beep..."]. The second is set to go off 30 minutes after the first; and I tend to finally crawl out of bed an hour after that...

My phone's not too bad. As long as I don't lie on the wrong ear I'll hear it. Turning the alarm off involves opening the phone cover and swiping the icon the right way. Not as easy as just dabbing a button.

Having the alarm clock go off at an inopportune moment during a dream, however, has resulted in that clock getting smashed through the top of the bedside table.

They've got one now that you have to double tap it with a laser tag type pistol before it shuts off.

I'd be a lot happier if the "Dismiss" and "Snooze" buttons on my phone weren't so close together. Not to mention so narrow that my thumb covers both of them.

I have two alarms set, 5 minutes apart, since chances are 9/10 that I will manage to hit the 'Dismiss' instead of 'Snooze'.

Okay, that's awesome! (as long as I don't get the weapons mixed up) :)
